Ben, I am a Christian and a Social Conservative. I firmly believe marriage is only between one man and one woman. Life begins at Conception. The 10 Commandments ARE the bedrock of our Legal system. Having said that, when it comes to the area of personal belief, it is NOT for the government to dictate personal beliefs. The laws we pass must represent the value system found in the Declaration of Independence.

Our Founders were men of varying degrees of faith, but also believed that our country was a nation based on those values found in Christianity. The did not however, believe that anyone had a right to force those beliefs on another human being. Even Reagan stated that Conservatism is, in essence, libertarianism. That is to say people have the right to live their lives, believe as they wish, according to the laws of the land and without government interference.

If you believe that, you're a FISCAL or ECONOMIC conservative. There's also social conservatives, don't forget. Just because you have some economic sense doesn't make you entirely conservative.
